Mendham
Borough is a picturesque close-knit community with a small
town atmosphere and a historic past dating back to Colonial days. At present, the Borough remains only partially developed, and its many fine residential subdivisions reflect earlier architectural periods.
The borough split from Mendham Township in 1906 when
residents wanted to build a public water system.
The same concern for historic preservation is evident along Route 24, the main commercial thoroughfare. Small offices and shops are found in well-maintained Colonial and Victorian frame
dwellings. The Town Hall is located in Phoenix House, one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in Morris County, and the historic 1740’s Ebenezer Byram home is now the well-known Black Horse Inn.
Mendham is generally characterized as an upper income residential community with residents commuting to New York City and North Jersey business and industrial firms. Route 24 provides quick access to major metropolitan arterial highways, such as routes 280, 287, and I-80.
The Borough has an excellent public elementary school system. Secondary school students attend West Morris Mendham Regional High School. In addition, many fine private schools are available within the region.

Mendham Township
Mendham
Township which encircles Mendham Borough, is an affluent
community primarily made up of the Ralston and Brookside
neighborhoods and some sprawling estates and farms.
Incorporated in 1749, with the exception of one restaurant,
it is completely residential. Mendham Township offers a
broad variety of homes, from antique colonials to gracious
estates. Streams, parkland, tall oaks and rolling hills
offer a feeling of spaciousness in this town that is often
compared to a quaint New England village. Mendham Township
lies in the southern part of Morris County, just a few miles
west of Morristown and less than one hour from New York
City. Bucolic, historic, traditional and prosperous are
often used to describe Mendham Township.
An annual event in Brookside, the governmental center of
the township, is the July Fourth Parade and Festival. The
Main Street parade reflects the village culture with civic
leaders, local float entries, bands, fire trucks, antique
vehicles, clowns, and, occasionally, farm animals. The
parade route ends at the Brookside Community Center where
families can participate in games and contests or buy a
hot dog or hamburger at the Rotary club food booth.
