Wharton, NJ
(Morris County)
Joseph Wharton was instrumental
in the development of this industrial town, originally
called Port Oram. Incorporated in 1895 and renamed for Mr.
Wharton in 1902, the borough housed blast and silk mill
workers. The Thatcher Glass Company was the largest industry
and major employer in the borough during the last century.
Its location at the juncture of Route 15 and Interstate 80
has made Wharton a desirable location for new commercial and
retail development.

High School, in Rockaway Borough
Transportation
Only 40 miles west of New York City, several major highways serve the
Wharton area. Interstate 80, which crosses the state from the George Washington Bridge in New York City to the Delaware Water Gap, in Pennsylvania, passes through the Township, as does U.S. Highway Route 46. Interstate Routes 280 and 287, and New Jersey State Routes 10
and 15 are nearby.
Recreation Facilities
County, state and federal
parks, are within a few minutes drive where you can try your
hand at everything from bocce to baseball. The Morris County
Park Commission operates 24 sites, including three golf
courses, two aboreta and the Mennen Sports Arena and offers
a year-round program of activities throughout the county
like adult education courses, programs for school children,
planned trail walks, golf tournaments and outdoor concerts.

There is plenty of shopping found on routes 10,

and 46 and the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in nearby Rockaway.
